If the TBS series Miracle Workers isn’t already on your must-watch series, a dance number featuring Daniel Radcliffe in hot pants and chaps might just be the push you need to add it to your viewing lineup.
The series, which is about two angels (Radcliffe and Geraldine Viswanathan) tasked with convincing their boss (Steve Buscemi) to not end the world. Now in its third season, the angels and God are on the Oregon Trail, for… reasons. Naturally, this leads to Radcliffe’s character, Ezekiel, drinking snake oil and doing the fiercest drag rendition of “She’ll Be Coming Round The Mountain” this side of the Rockies.
According to co-showrunners Daniel Mirk and Robert Padnick, getting Radcliffe to do the number “took no convincing at all,” they told Entertainment Weekly. “Daniel was excited about the idea of the dance sequence as soon as we pitched it to him. He developed the dance with a choreographer and practiced it extensively on his own time, and obviously, his hard work paid off because the routine is amazing.”
“We knew we wanted Ezekiel to do a crazy vogue dance to a club remix of ‘She’ll Be Coming Round the Mountain’ and the look developed from there, with lots of help from our fantastic costume designer Christina Mongini and makeup artist Brigette Hennech,” they said. “There was a lot of attention paid to the sequined hot pants in particular, and I think you will agree we nailed it."
Radcliffe is an outspoken ally for the LGBTQ+ community whose activism earned him the Trevor Project’s Hero Award. He’s also been outspoken about his support of trans women following Harry Potter author J. K. Rowling revealing herself to be an anti-trans bigot. “Transgender women are women,” he wrote. “Any statement to the contrary erases the identity and dignity of transgender people and goes against all advice given by professional health care associations who have far more expertise on this subject matter than either Jo (Rowling) or I.”
